Magwero School for the Deaf is committed to providing inclusive, high-quality education that empowers learners who are deaf and hard of hearing to reach their full academic and personal potential. The school follows the Zambian national curriculum, fully adapted to meet the learning needs of deaf learners through the use of Sign Language and learner-centered instructional approaches.
Curriculum and Subjects
The school offers a comprehensive academic programme from Early Childhood Education (ECE) through Primary and Secondary levels. At the primary level, learners are taught core subjects including Literacy, Numeracy, Mathematics, Social Studies, Creative and Technology Studies (CTS), Sign Language, and other examinable subjects as prescribed by the Ministry of Education. At secondary level, learners pursue a broad range of academic subjects that prepare them for national examinations and future career pathways.
Instruction is delivered by trained and dedicated teachers who understand the unique learning needs of deaf learners and employ appropriate methodologies, visual aids, and assistive strategies to ensure effective understanding and participation.
Academic Achievements and Learner Outcomes
Over the years, Magwero School for the Deaf has recorded notable academic and co-curricular achievements. A number of learners have successfully completed their primary and secondary education at the school and progressed to higher education and vocational training institutions. Notably, some former pupils have gone on to become qualified teachers serving in various parts of the country, while others have returned to Magwero School for the Deaf to serve as teachers—an inspiring testament to the school’s impact and sustainability.
Co-curricular Excellence
In addition to academics, learners at Magwero School for the Deaf actively participate in JETS (Junior Engineers, Technicians and Scientists) and sports activities, where they have demonstrated exceptional performance at different levels. These programmes help to nurture creativity, teamwork, discipline, and practical problem-solving skills, contributing to the holistic development of learners.
